Can a Hot Tub Overheat?
It’s sum-sum-summertime and the days are beautifully warm and balmy. The sultry sunshine is perfect for obtaining your golden summer tan, splashing in the pool or grilling out in the backyard. But can that same summertime sunshine you love do damage by overheating your hot tub? If you aren’t careful, it definitely can.
Spas are heat retainers, which is perfect for those winter months that you want a relaxing dip in your hot tub. But sometimes that heat is retained too well in the summertime.
How can you help your spa avoid overheating and automatic shutdown? Here are some helpful hints:
- Adjust your filtration settings to prevent the water temperatures from rising too high. Set the filtration mode to run during the coolest time of day or night.
- Set your filtration to the minimum setting of one hour (or the minimum setting that your spa brand and model allows).
- Check and maintain your hot tub chemicals regularly, even if your personal summertime hot tub use is less.
- Open your cover often to allow the heat to escape after it has built up all day. Return to your normal filtration settings when the outside temperatures of late Summer and early Fall start to drop.
- Proactively helping your spa to not overheat will go a long way in making sure that no summertime damage comes to your favorite relaxation spot. It’s also a great idea to have a professional yearly spa check-up from an authorized dealer.
